Mantz Takes Top Spot At Tschida
Marty Mantz
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a small mouth bass! haha who would have ever thought it was going to snow? It all started the day before several members showed up to prefish to find some of them big smallies Paul keeps talking about. Upon arrival at the lake at 8 AM I met Matt at the boat dock the wind was howling and the skies were Grey and it was cold! we fished here and there and the fish were actually biting to my surprise but as the day went on the weather got worse and worse and rain and sleet balls forced us back to the boat dock several times to dry out and warm up, Shaun was there too we were all thinking what are we doing out here! that was pretty much the story of the day all day getting pelted with frozen sleet balls and or rained on so we called it quits, I had enough i was cold!
Heading to the campgrounds a lot of members were there but the one I was the most happy to see was Geo and his magic hot chocolate machine! what a site to see for some cold and hungry anglers! 3 or 4 cups of that and I was feeling better and sitting by the campfire roasting my gloves on a stick to dry them out as it started to snow like crazy! I looked over at the boat and it had an inch of snow in it and I thought this is crazy! it's going to be a long night!.
Tournament day rolled around and it was a chilly 36 degrees at the kickoff and everyone was bundled up and ready to roll. after about an hour it was apparent that the fish were feeling the effects of this weather and Tschida was going to deny us the opportunity to catch some of them big fish that are in there, the theme of the day was fish hard and keep anything over 12 inches and that is what everyone did, there was a lot of fish caught but nobody managed to find the big ones.
1st place was Marty Mantz with 3 fish 5.2 pounds.
2ND place was Bob Reinbold with 3 fish and 4.5 pounds.
3rd place was Paul Reinbold with 3 fish and 3.83 pounds after a dead fish penalty
Big Bass of the day was caught by Jonathan Campbell at the boat dock we launched off of with 10 minutes left in the tourney weighing in at 2.32 pounds. Congrats Jonathan!
There were 19 anglers participating and they weighed in 29 fish weighing 41 pounds for a 1.41 pound average. Full results and pictures can be found on the site! thanks Geo and Mike for the food and Especially the hot chocolate machine! that was a life saver Friday night!. thanks to everyone who showed up for the tournament the Reinbold's were there in full force! hang in there Shaun I know your going to win one soon! keep fishing hard. practice practice practice and you will get there! there is one more tournament left and it's the big one at Nelson Lake on OCT 2ND well see what mother nature has in store for us there!
