2010 Ice Bowl
Another year is upon us and 2010 promises to bring lots of fun and enjoyment and hopes of good fishing. The first event of the year was held on Nelson Lake on Saturday the 27Th of March. The appropriately named ICE BOWL came through with flying colors with temps in the 30's and the wind howling out of the northwest at 20-30 MPH.
A total of 11 anglers showed up for the first event of the year, everyone was dressed in multiple layers of clothing and ready to do battle despite the conditions. teams were drawn and gear was put together and everyone filed down to the dock and were shuffled around the lake to there spot of choice to begin a day of fishing.
This is a unique event because all fishing is done from the shore and with a partner and your weight does not count this tournament is based on total inches of up to 6 measured fish between two partners. New member Matt from Florida must have been thinking to himself what have I got myself into!.
10 AM rolled around and fishing got underway it didnt take long before people started to haul in the fish, it was almost like a scene from a movie to look down the bank through the fog and the haze and see glimpses of your fellow competitors lining the bank waves pounding at your feet, one could say it was almost surreal.
Big fish of the day honors went to Bob Reinbold at 20 inches. A last minute flash of fury by Paul Reinbold produced a 19.5 inch with only 2 minutes left in the fishing time and of course he caught it on a spinner bait followed by cries of get the net! but none of that was good enough to overtake Jason Bader and his magic lure. Here are the results.
BASS BANDITS 2010 ICE BOWL total length largest fish
1st Jason Bader / Mike Wentz 100" 18"
2nd Paul Reinbold / Janine Wetzel 97" 19.5"
3rd Marty Mantz / Tony Reinbold 96" 16.5"
4th Bob Reinbold / Jeff Wetzel 91.75" 20"
5th Jonathan Campbell / Matt Sulivan 91" 16"
Thanks to Marty for the use of his boat and many thanks to Geo Wentz for the delicous food that he cooked up for us while we were fishing in the terrible weather. The first gathering went well looking forward to seeing everyone out there at Nelson Lake again in May for the first actual boat fishing tournament of the year, lets hope for better weather this time!
Welcome aboard to all of our new members and we shall see you soon on the field of battle! now if we could just get Paul to forget his spinner baits at home! any volunteers?
