James Francis with two nice Indian Creek Dam smallmouth
Long time club member James Francis can finally take a sigh of relief as he captured his first Bass Bandit win at the "Southwest Rendezvous" at Indian Creek Dam on Saturday. The conditions were very tough with clear skies, clear calm waters and lots of fishing pressure. Lets not forget to add in the cold water temps that were still on the rise from the warm week before. Add all of those elements together and you get one tough fishing day, but that didn't bother the Bass Bandits as they held their 2nd tournament of the 2009 tournament trail season.
The bass were not cooperating very well that day and only 5 total bass were caught and weighed in at the end of the day. Tournament winner James Francis weighed in 2 fish for a winning combined weight of 5.74lbs, Paul Reinbold came in with a giant largemouth bass that tipped the scales at 4.13lbs which was good enough for a 2nd place finish. Reinbold's bass also took top honors for big bass of the tournament that gave him an extra 1 point boost in the Angler of the Year award. Also catching a giant bass was Janine Wetzel of Mandan who caught a monster of a smallmouth that weighed 3.87lbs which was good enough for a 3rd place finish. This smallmouth is the biggest smallmouth of the 2009 current season so far, it just may win the biggest smallmouth award at the end of the tour season! And coming in at the his second consecutive 4th place finish for the year was Deryk Voller with a nice largemouth bass that weighed 2.92lbs. If Voller keeps up his strong finishes he just may sneek out a AOY title! (angler of the year).
