The first tourney of the year was held last weekend and for once Mother nature decided to cooperate, there were a lot of club members that showed up to pre-fish the days prior to the tournament, Shawn and Dick and several others decided to camp out. Would this be the day that someone could end my streak of wins? And do it at my home lake? Only time would tell.

The day of the tournament rolled around and it was a beautiful Saturday morning with temps around 40 and highs for the day in the upper 60's and the wind decided to play nice for once and it was calm seas almost all day long! Almost too calm! I was actually wishing for a little breeze to get the fish active and chomping!

The meeting was held and a couple new members showed up people hit their boats and were launched in the order they drew out of a hat. Lucky me I got 2nd to last drawing as usual! The boats headed out with a roar and off they went all peeling to different directions and destinations, when it was finally my turn I pulled out into the lake to survey what the competition was up to. I headed towards mid lake and saw a swarm of boats circling the rock piles like sharks! Must have been 6 boats or more within 50 yds! Not the spot for me I don’t like crowds! I knew where Matt would be so I did not go there right away, I scanned the situation and headed for my ledge and started cranking within minutes I had 2 four pd plus bass and a big smile, didn’t take long competition to notice as several of them decided it would b fun to just pull right in and sit right on my spot and ruin my fishing so I left to go see what everyone else was doing.

People were everywhere the banks were being assaulted from many different angles! I went to a place where nobody was and resumed fishing. It was a great day to be fishing for once probably the best weather opener that we have ever had! The fish were cooperative and the fishermen and women were having fun catching them too! Boats were zipping around all over the lake, it was a great opener! Results are as follows.

1st place Marty Mantz 12.47 lbs (3 LMB)

2nd place Matt Sullivan 10.63 lbs (3 LMB)

3rd place Dick Roland 10.02 lbs ( 3 LMB)

Largest Bass: Matt Sullivan 5.67 lbs

A total of 26 anglers participated weighing in 51 bass totaling 119.24 lbs ( a new record) for an average of 2.4 lbs per fish! This is also the 5th tourney win in a row for Marty! Going back to last year another new club record! Thanks Geo and Mike again for the mini burgers! I think I ate 4 of them! Full results and pictures can be found on the website!

Next tourney will be held at New Johns lake Launching out of East Park Lake ramp on 21 May 2011 from 7 am to 2 Pm MST, looking forward to seeing everyone out there and the camping! This could have the potential to be a record breaker tourney again if the water temps are right! So gear up on your smallie fishing arsenal and prepare for battle!
