Audubon Heats Up

Deryk Voller Audubon Champion!

Audubon was a good tourney this year! During prefishing it sure did not seem that it would be that way, for two solid days prior to the tournament the skies were full of storm clouds as front after front passed thru the area.  Matt and I and anyone else that was prefishing spent more time racing for the dock and sitting in the truck to avoid those nasty storms than we actually did fishing!

Tourney day rolled around though and the forecast was for sunny skies and light winds Mr. weatherman got er right for once it was a beautiful day, the sun was bright and the clouds were gone and the fish hadn’t eaten much in two days and were hungry!.  I proceeded to go to my chosen fishing place an island surrounded by a nice weed bed and shallow water my second cast whammo a solid hookup I thought nice a big one right off the bat, yeah ok it turned into a 12 pd pike! haha as I gently nursed him into the net so I didn’t loose my fav lure the smallies were liking, 3 casts later same thing another big pike, I kept persistent and circled my island nonstop all day and it eventually paid off and the smallies began biting and I got a nice limit.

I saw boat after boat race by me some going east some going west some passing me prob 10 or more times during the day going both ways in search of the fish!  I thought I had done well little did I know that off in the distance Jeff and Janine were hammering the smallies on an island by the dam, Paul and Derik and prarie were hammering them along the dam also in a different spot, Jonathan and Eric were also banging away at the dam, Eric was out in the lake hammering away and matt was zipping around at light speed bouncing from island to island searching for the big ones.

This tourney was undoubtedly the best Audubon tourney since the inception of the club as far as fish being caught and weights produced.  A total of 18 anglers participated weighing in 43 fish totaling 96.86 pds for an average of 2.25 pds per fish.  That’s some good fishing. Here are your top 5 anglers.

 1.  Deryk voller:     9.17 pds (3 smb)

 2.  Eric Ehn:         8.97 pds (3 smb) also biggest bass 4.25 pds.

 3.  Marty Mantz:   8.91 pds (3 smb)

 4.   Jeff Wetzel:    8.54 pds (3 smb)

 5.  Matt Sullivan:  7.69 pds (3 smb)

Congrats Deryk on your first win this year, my darkhorse pick Eric almost got er done, maybe next time Eric, you put up a valiant effort.  next on the agenda is lake Tschida on the 27th of August from 7am to 2 pm mst it has all the makings of another battle royal! see ya’ll on the water.
