Ice conditions (new johns)

Hey all, I noticed the ice took a real hit this past weekend on the lakes down here in the Linton area. I'm hoping to actually camp at New Johns over Easter in 2 weeks. Of course, conditions permitting. If anyone has any reports on the ice up there I would greatly appreciate your input. I'm hoping f...

Final trip of the year

We are in full swing with bow hunting and other fall activities, haven't done any bass fishing for over a month. I know I'm missing out on some great fall fishing. We were thinking of hitting up new johns this weekend for one last hurrah! Any suggestions on a fall pattern or a better place to hit up...

Oahe smallies

Planning on fishing oahe a lot this summer, never have before. I now love 15 minutes from beaver bay by Linton and would love to figure out the smallies on the river. Any advice on patterns? Do I have to go into SD to find them or has anyone ever got into them around the Linton area? Thanks, Mike

Re: Drop shot setups and best technique for shorter rods.

I second the VMC spin shot... super simple and no line twists. I really only started to drop shot last year and can't get over the effectiveness, so may times I tried other finesse presentations that just didn't work when a dropshot would have slayed them. Since I tend to over think most of my prese...

Re: South Central ND, North Central SD

Thanks!! I was starting to get a little depressed about moving further away from the lakes I'm used to. I'd love to get on some new water and try to figure it out.

South Central ND, North Central SD

Just moved to Linton, ND. I'm a full hour further away from New John's, which sucks! As far as I know south central ND is full of pike and perch lakes. Anyone know of any hidden gems for bass in the the Linton area? How about crossing the border into SD? I know I have the Missouri, but my boat is th...

Re: Has anyone fished Sweet Briar in the last couple of year

I grew up fishing sweet briar in the late 90's and early 2000's. I didn't know much about bass fishing, so all I used to do was throw a floating fire tiger rapala along weed lines let it set, twitch, twitch. That lake got me addicted to largies. Used to catch a lot back then. Fished it two years ago...

Re: New Johns

I went out on Sunday afternoon with my wife for one last hurrah on the water as well. Exact same fishing report. Caught about 15 bass between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs. Tried all kinds of moving baits, spinnerbaits, squarebills, topwater, etc. Caught one on a squarebill, but everything else was on a drop shot...

Re: My 2014 tournament season in review

Thanks for the article! I'm always wondering what other guys are doing on the water on any given day. I feel like I spend most of my fishing days second guessing my patterns. When in doubt, find a canal at New Johns.

scouting report

Unfortunately I have yet to wet a line this year. I'm looking to get to New John's on Sunday for mother's day. However, I need to convince my wife that going fishing would be a good way to spend mother's day. I'd like to think we'd catch something. Any reports? Water temp on lakes not named nelson? ...

Re: It is way too quiet here!

I fixed a flat tire on my boat trailer, ordered a crap load of items from Bass Pro Shops, and day dream daily about getting a bigger boat. Other than that, I have yet to fish Nelson, but am curious how the Ice Bowl turned out???

Which baitcast reel would you recommend?

I'm looking to upgrade my equipment (one tiny piece at a time). I'm going to get a new reel and am sick of reading product reviews. Right now, all I've used are BPS Extreme reels, They have been good, but I can't help but day dream about using something more quality. I'm thinking either a Quantum Sm...

Re: soft water

I drove up to New Johns on Sunday. It is still froze over. There was about 10 ft. of open water along the shore. Shouldn't be too long.

Re: Nelson 4-1-13

I dusted off the S.S. Tuna and made a trip to Nelson with my wife and daughter yesterday. It was great to be on the water. It was cold for my daughter so we only stayed a couple of hours. Caught 1 crappie, 2 bass, and a 12 lb. pike using a redeye shad, square bill, and a shad rap. It was good to get...

I also believe it only has Northern and perch, but that is only speculation from my college years when I lived in Dickinson.

Love that lake too! I wish I had more free time... all I do is look at these reports and say I'm gonna get out there, but never make it.. Just have to start prioritizing better... Fishing, God, Family.
